A Preliminary Survey of L-band Radio Frequency Interference Over China by Using Aquarius Observations
[09-Sep-2015] Lan, H., Zhao, T., Zhang, Z., and Shi, J.
Presented at the 2014 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium
The Aquarius mission aiming at providing global map of sea surface salinity(SSS) is a collaboration between NASA and Argentina's space agency, Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE). The mission has been providing L-band brightness temperature observations since its launch in June, 2011. Simultaneously, significant level of radio frequency interference (RFI) are present in the land observation. A wide range of RFI contaminations are present over China, which are found to coincide with the locations of airports. This may indicate that the RFI sources in China are mainly caused by cities' air-traffic control radars.
