Equatorial Atlantic Low Salinity

Aquarius data reveal low-salinity areas related to outflow from major rivers. For example, during some months Aquarius maps show a very large extent of relatively fresh water associated with the Amazon and Orinoco Rivers. The Amazon has the world's largest outflow with an average discharge greater than the next seven largest rivers combined.
